Virgins

until Marriage

dr Z Halat, medical epidemiology consultant, noxologist: We are all neighbours in our global village. Respectful distance between neighbours is the recipe for harmonious relationships. An American philosopher and logician Willard Van Orman Quine once said: no entity without identity. From the history of my nation and my own professional experience I dare to add:  identity integrity determines survival. The genuine respect for moral, psychological, and physical integrity of each human person is a prerequisite for the fair integration of humanity.

Cultural differences in attitudes towards virginity until marriage

John Paul II: Evangelium vitae - Encyclical Letter, March 25, 1995
.."There is certainly an enormous disparity between the powerful
resources available to the forces promoting the 'culture of death'
and the means at the disposal of those working for a 'culture of
life and love'. But we know that we can rely on the help of God,
for whom nothing is impossible (cf. Mt 19:26)"...

Iraqi Catholic Leader Decries Allied Bombing

A Catholic prelate has Catholic World News charged that American and British air strikes are killing Iraqi civilians every day.
In an interview with the FIDES news service, the Chaldean Catholic Patriarch of Babylon has lamented that-- because of the warfare in the Balkans-- the focus of world public opinion has shifted away from the suffering people of Iraq. The Patriarch also said that his Church-- and the political leaders of Iraq-- are anxiously looking forward to the prospect of a visit by Pope John Paul II to their country.
Patriarch Raphael I Bidawid is the spiritual leader of about 600,000 Catholics of the Chaldean rite, most of them living in Iraq. There are also about 200,000 Latin-rite Catholics in Iraq, along with 200,000 non-Catholic Christians.
The complete text of the interview with Patriarch Raphael I Bidawid follows, through the courtesy of FIDES:
Question: What is the situation in Iraq?
Answer: The people, despite everything, are resisting. The tragedy is that the US and Great Britain bomb every day, hitting not only military targets. In Kosovo they call them "mistakes," but here they are normal daily routine. But I think that when someone is killed it is always a mistake, these are crimes against a civilian population, and they kill about twenty people every day.
Q: You mentioned the war in Kosovo. Have the two conflicts anything in common?
A: If we compare our situation with that in Kosovo we find many similarities, and in fact the Iraqi people, although mostly Muslims, feel they are in the same trench as the people of the Yugoslav Republic. What has been happening there for two months now, has been happening here for nine years: and the same people are dropping the bombs. It seems to me that in both cases the US and Great Britain show they know nothing about the people they are attacking. They undervalue the tenacity of the Iraqi people who has resisted for nine years, and the same appears to be true of the Yugoslav people. They think that with bombs they can weaken the power of the leaders, whereas, in fact, they only increase the suffering of the people. The people prefer to support their leaders rather than end up under the slavery of America.
Q: At what point are preparations for a papal visit to Iraq?
A: It is known that Pope John Paul II has often voiced a desire to make a pilgrimage in the footsteps of Abraham, the common father of Jews, Christians, and Muslims. For the Pope, Abraham is a figure who helps the unity of believers to overcome political divisions. On May 14th I was received by the Pope, together with a delegation composed of the Shi'ite imam of Khadum mosque and the Sunni president of the council of administration of the Iraqi Islamic Bank. There was also a representative of the Iraqi ministry of religion. I renewed our invitation to the Pope, because his visit would be for us a grace from heaven. It would confirm the faith of Christians and prove the Pope's love for the whole of humanity in a country which is mainly Muslim.
At the end of the audience the Pope bowed to the Muslim holy book, the Qu'ran, presented to him by the delegation, and he kissed it as a sign of respect. The photo of that gesture has been shown repeatedly on Iraqi television and it demonstrates that the Pope is not only aware of the suffering of the Iraqi people, he has also great respect for Islam.
A papal visit would be welcomed by both the people and by the authorities. After the audience I immediately sent a recommendation to the Iraqi government to make the official step of inviting the Pope to Iraq.

Dr Halat’s endless list of reasons to remain a virgin until marriage
Reason # 1

The tighter you twist the strands, the better the rope will stay together. Moral, psychological, and physical integrity of each human person depicted as a three strand laid rope also know as a plain- or hawser-laid.

The tighter you twist the strands, the better the rope will stay together.

Moral, psychological, and physical integrity of each human person
depicted as a three strand laid rope also know as a plain- or hawser-laid.

Moral, psychological, physical integrity determines survival

Your integrity will keep you alive for ever.
Identity integrity determines survival.
Take care of your integrity or you will get lost in life.

Those who corrupt your moral values

want to steal your soul and flesh.

Those who undermine your moral values
want to take away your freedom.

Those who reward you for giving up your integrity
want to deprive you of your identity,  destroy your entity
as human person, and having you dehumanized
make you dependent on them for the rest of your life

The genuine Culture of Roman Catholics and Muslims,
opposes disintegration of each human person.
The fraudulent Culture of Roman Catholics and Muslims
commits atrocities in spite of the teachings of Christianity and Islam
and is by no means less harmful to humanity
than the Culture of Death which openly destroys
the moral strand of the three strand laid rope
keeping us alive forever.

Because of its misleading and deceptive
discordance between declarations and acts
the fraudulent Culture of Roman Catholics and Muslims
causes scandals and lags behind the Culture of  Nature.

Even one of the world's greatest
and the illustrious sons of the soil of India
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi has been distracted from God
by a single fraudulent Christian, although most probably NOT Catholic
[what does it mean 'catholic' ? 'catholic' meaning see here]
and all the evil deeds done
in the name of Christianity

Although Hindu, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi had a very close connection with Christianity and admired Jesus very much, often quoting from his favorite 'Sermon on the Mount' chapter in Mathew 5–7 . [Hindi, Romanized Hindi. Urdu, English]
When the missionary E. Stanley Jones met with Gandhi he asked him, "Mr. Gandhi, though you quote the words of Christ often, why is that you appear to so adamantly reject becoming his follower?" Gandhi replied, "Oh, I don't reject Christ. I love Christ. It's just that so many of you Christians are so unlike Christ." “If Christians would really live according to the teachings of Christ, as found in the Bible, all of India would be Christian today,” he added.
Gandhi's closeness with Christianity began when he was a young man practicing law in South Africa. Apart from being attached with the Christian faith, he intently studied the Bible and the teachings of Jesus, and was also seriously exploring becoming a Christian, which led him to his discovery of a small church gathering in his locality. These strongly entrenched Biblical teachings have always acted a panacea to many of India's problems during its freedom struggle. After deciding to attend the church service in South Africa, he came across a racial barrier, the church barred his way at the door. "Where do you think you're going, kaffir?" an English man asked Gandhi in a belligerent tone. Gandhi replied, "I'd like to attend worship here." The church elder snarled at him, "There's no room for kaffirs in this church. Get out of here or I'll have my assistants throw you down the steps." This infamous incident forced Gandhi to never again consider being a Christian, but rather adopt what he found in Christianity and its founder Jesus Christ.
In a speech to Women Missionaries in 28 July 1925, he said, “…although I am myself not a Christian, as an humble student of the Bible, who approaches it with faith and reverence, I wish respectfully to place before you the essence of the Sermon on the Mount...There are thousands of men and women today who, though they may not have heard about the Bible or Jesus have more faith and are more god fearing than Christians who know the Bible and who talk of its Ten Commandments..."
To a Christian missionary Gandhi once said, “To live the gospel is the most effective way most effective in the beginning, in the middle and in the end. …Not just preach but live the life according to the light.... If, therefore, you go on serving people and ask them also to serve, they would understand. But you quote instead John 3:16 and ask them to believe it and that has no appeal to me, and I am sure people will not understand it...the Gospel will be more powerful when practiced and preached.” “A rose does not need to preach. It simply spreads its fragrance. The fragrance is its own sermon…the fragrance of religious and spiritual life is much finer and subtler than that of the rose.”
In many ways Gandhi was right, the intense proselytization by Christian missionaries in India through force and allurement forced him to make many scathing statements against Christian missionaries, which several times inspired them to retrospect and change the way of approach in ‘Evangelism’. "If Jesus came to earth again. He would disown many things that are being done in the name of Christianity," Gandhi said during his meeting with an English missioner.
Here I am remembered of Sadhu Sundar Singh who is said to have done more to "indeginize" the churches of India than any figures in the twentieth century. "You have offered us Christianity in a Western cup... Give it to us in an Eastern bowl and we will drink of it," is a famous statement by Singh, who converted from Sikh to Christianity after his personal experience with Jesus, who appeared in his room on one morning in the year 1905, when he was just fifteen years old.
Stanley Jones once asked Gandhi: “How can we make Christianity naturalized in India, not a foreign thing, identified with a foreign government and a foreign people, but a part of the national life of India and contributing its power to India’s uplift?" Gandhi responded with great clarity, "First, I would suggest that all Christians, missionaries begin to live more like Jesus Christ. Second, practice it without adulterating it or toning it down. Third, emphasize love and make it your working force, for love is central in Christianity. Fourth, study the non–Christian religions more sympathetically to find the good that is within them, in order to have a more sympathetic approach to the people."

Raunchiness: obscenity - vulgarity - promiscuity
not wanted in China
Two comments on exemplative (but not exemplary) English teacher
who acted as
instigator of Chinese social structure disintegration

15JAMAL:
In my opinion, Virginity is an important asset both for girls and boys. how can a girl or a boy who loses her/ his virginity can enjoy the moments of life after marriage satisfactorily. I think Chinese parents need to take serious steps about acquainting their children regarding the preservation of their virginities. However, still in this age we can see that in many Muslim countries you can find millions of young people who have not even touched the opposite sex all through their lifes and the marriage night is the first night when they touch thier life partners for the first time in their life and that is the true pleasure.. i am sorry if my words hurt anybody. I don't mean to hurt u . I only want to request the youth of China to think over and preserve their virginity for the right time !

17Wolf:
It is very scary that the above English teachers from the West are trying to spread "sexual liberation" in a nation that still values virginity at marriage. Such teachers threaten the ways of Chinese society and ought not be suffered. The USA and the UK have become filthy with STDs, obesity, divorce, rebellion, individualism, feminism, homosexuality. Some (not all!) from those regions are working secretly in China toward the Westernizing of the East, so that the whole world is filled with very dangerous things that destroy traditions, families, and societies. I have faith in the Chinese Government, that it will stop such sex-addicted individualists from ruining the purity of their nation.

Empathy: Baseline Position for Humanity
Dr Frans de Waal
at the annual meeting of the American Association
for the Advancement of Science,
February 2012
"Research has disproved the view, dominant since the 19th century, typical of biologist Thomas Henry Huxley's argument that morality is absent in nature and something created by humans (...) Human morality is unthinkable without empathy (...) Empathy is much more easily generated between individuals who know each other, or who are close to each other, than individuals who are more distant. (...) this "in-group bias [has made it more difficult to] stretch empathy and solidarity. We now live in a world where all sorts of groups mingle in a society...so it's something that should be tried, but it's a challenge."

Empathy:
Baseline Position for Roman Catholicism and Islam
Romans 13:9

Thou shall not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, do not steal, You shall not covet, and any other commandment, are summarized int he word, love your neighbour as yourself

The Culture of Death denies empathy,
shows no mercy to the weakest ones :

A virgin body has the freshness of secret sources, the morning sheen of an unopened flower, the orient luster of a pearl on which the sun has never shone. Grotto, temple, sanctuary, secret garden – man, like the child, is fascinated by enclosed and shadowy places not yet animated by any consciousness, which wait to be given a soul: what he alone is to take and to penetrate seems to be in truth created by him. In addition, a goal pursued by all desire, it is the consumption of the desired object implies its destruction. By breaking the hymen, the man has a woman's body more intimately than a penetration that left intact in this process irreversible, it is unequivocally a passive object, it affirms its hold on him. This meaning is expressed exactly in the legend about the knight who makes his way among the thorn bushes difficult to pick a rose ever breathed, he not only discovers, but he breaks its stem and then he has conquered. The image is so clear that in popular parlance to "take her flower" means to destroy a woman's virginity, and that this expression gave rise to the word "deflowering."
Simone de Beauvoir,  'The Second Sex'

The objectification of virgins, particularly turning the female virgin
into a piece of flesh (de Beauvoir's 'un corps vierge' - 'a virgin body')
and the most wanted sex toy which must be destroyed just for fun
(de Beauvoir's 'la consommation de l'objet désiré '
- the consumption of the desired object')
is a characteristic feature of the Culture of Death.

dehumanization

Abastenia St Leger Eberle Pimping Girl Child 1913
Pimping Girl Child (historically known as 'White Slave')
A plaster statuette by Abastenia St Leger Eberle, 1913.

Its photograph appeared on the May 3, 1913 cover of 'The Survey Journal'. The child in the statue represents child prostitution. The positioning of the barely pubescent girl, in full undress, in the middle of her “auction” for sexual servitude, with her hands held behind her back graphically illustrates her bondage. The man who holds her is shouting out, perhaps her price and her age. St Leger Eberle produced many pieces as a form of social protest against child prostitution. She was especially focused on children of the Lower East Side of New York City when that part of the city was full of immigrants and of resulting social problems. With the eye of a photojournalist and without sentimentality, she recorded the lives of these people including the plight of immigrant females.

(info compiled from the following sources: AskART and Girl for Sale )

More about Abastenia St Leger Eberle, in Notable american women: a biographical dictionary, ET. James, JWJames, PS Boyer, 1974:
<Inspired by the writings of Jane Adams, she became convinced that the artist “has no right to work as an individualist without responsibility to others. He is the specialized eye of society... The artist must see for the people – reveal them to themselves and to each other” (Survey, May 3, 1913). Her most outspoken work in this vein was “The White Slave”, which depicts a naked young American girl, hands bound behind her, being auctioned off by a lecherous old man. A reflection of current concern over organized prostitution, as voiced the same year in Elizabeth Robin's novel 'My Little Sister', “The White Slave” was exhibited at the famous Armory Show in New York in 1913.>

<(...) Young girls are bought and sold daily for sex in San Diego County. Some are forced into the life. Others are coerced. (...) ...a University of Pennsylvania study reveals up to 300,000 children in the United States are at risk of becoming forced sex workers. [San Diego Police Detective James] Hunter said pimps recruit online, at schools, malls and bus stands. Many of the girls are foster kids, runaways, and even disabled. “They are just broken souls," Hunter said.Pimps exploit that vulnerability.“They’ll bring a girl in," Hunter said. "They will manipulate her. They will break her down completely and then they will build her back up the way they want her to be.”(...) “You have entrepreneurs that are saying 'wow, I can make $300,000 per girl, per year tax-free.' And in a stable you’ll have anywhere from four to 10 girls. And you do the math, they’re making money. The girls are reusable everyday. They’re just a product to these guys.” A product that must be branded. Lisa’s pimp ordered her to get a tattoo of his name on the inside of her bottom lip. “When I’m not focused on him, his goals, he would always say,`look in the mirror and see whose name is that.'“
The health risks to these girls are also profound according to San Diego Deputy District Attorney Gretchen Means. “We deal with horrible stories of girls ages 11, 12, 13 years old who have STDs that are so bad, they cannot walk and they have to have hysterectomies.” (...)> full text: Pimps Recruiting Underage Girls In San Diego Through Force And Coercion

"In Sweden, prostitution is officially acknowledged as a form of male sexual violence against women and children. One of the cornerstones of Swedish policies against prostitution and trafficking in human beings is the focus on the root cause, the recognition that without men’s demand for and use of women and girls for sexual exploitation, the global prostitution industry would not be able flourish and expand.
Prostitution is a serious problem that is harmful, in particular, not only to the prostituted woman or child but also to society at large. Therefore, prostituted women and children are seen as victims of male violence who do not risk legal penalties. Instead, they have a right to assistance to escape prostitution.3 Pimps, traffickers, and prostitution buyers knowingly exploit the vulnerability of the victims caused by high rates of poverty, unemployment, discriminatory labor practices, gender inequalities, and male violence against women and children." John Paul II at the Catholic University of Lublin, Poland, on June 9, 1987: Positus est in medio homo: nec bestia - nec deus. Man has been placed in the middle: neither God nor animalIn his speech to the scholars
at the Catholic University of Lublin

on  June 9, 1987,
John Paul II said:
"The human person must in the name of the truth about himself starve off a double temptation: the temptation to make the truth about himself subordinate to his freedom and the temptation to make himself subordinate to the world of objects; he has to refuse to succumb to the temptation of both self-idolatry and of self-subjectification:

Positus est in medio homo:
nec bestia—nec deus
."

Man has been placed in the middle:
neither God nor animal          .

Second Vatican Council, Nostra Aetate 3, October 28, 1965 (here)

"The Church has also a high regard for the Muslims. They worship God, who is one, living and subsistent, merciful and almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth (Cf. St. Gregory VII, Letter III, 21 to Anazir [Al-Nasir], King of Mauretania PL, 148. 451A.), who has spoken to men. They strive to submit themselves without reserve to the hidden decrees of God, just as Abraham submitted himself to God's plan, to whose faith Muslims eagerly link their own. Although not acknowledging him as God, they venerate Jesus as a prophet, his Virgin Mother they also honor, and even at times devoutly invoke. Further, they await the day of judgment and the reward of God following the resurrection of the dead. For this reason they highly esteem an upright life and worship God, especially by way of prayer, alms-deeds and fasting.
"Over the centuries many quarrels and dissensions have arisen between Christians and Muslims. The sacred Council now pleads with all to forget the past, and urges that a sincere effort be made to achieve mutual understanding; for the benefit of all men, let them together preserve and promote peace, social justice and moral values."

Apostolic Journey of His Holiness John Paul II to Turkey (November 1979)
address to the Catholic community of Ankara, Turkey, November 29, 1979 (here)

After quoting Nostra Aetate 3, as given above, His Holiness John Paul II says:
"My brothers, when I think of this spiritual heritage (Islam) and the value it has for man and for society, its capacity of offering, particularly in the young, guidance for life, filing the gap left by materialism, and giving a reliable foundation to social and juridical organization, I wonder if it is not urgent, precisely today when Christians and Muslims have entered a new period of history, to recognize and develop the spiritual bonds that unite us, in order to preserve and promote together for the benefit of all men, 'peace, liberty, social justice and moral values' as the Council calls upon us to do (Nostra Aetate 3)."

Jubilee Pilgrimage of His Holiness John Paul II
to Greece, Syria and Malta (May 2001)

Meeting with the Muslim Leaders, Omayyad Great Mosque
 Damascus, May 6, 2001,

Address of the Holy Father (here)

Dear Muslim Friends, As-salámu ‘aláikum!
Both Muslims and Christians prize their places of prayer, as oases where they meet the All Merciful God on the journey to eternal life, and where they meet their brothers and sisters in the bond of religion. When, on the occasion of weddings or funerals or other celebrations, Christians and Muslims remain in silent respect at the other’s prayer, they bear witness to what unites them, without disguising or denying the things that separate. It is in mosques and churches that the Muslim and Christian communities shape their religious identity, and it is there that the young receive a significant part of their religious education. What sense of identity is instilled in young Christians and young Muslims in our churches and mosques? It is my ardent hope that Muslim and Christian religious leaders and teachers will present our two great religious communities as communities in respectful dialogue, never more as communities in conflict. It is crucial for the young to be taught the ways of respect and understanding, so that they will not be led to misuse religion itself to promote or justify hatred and violence. Violence destroys the image of the Creator in his creatures, and should never be considered as the fruit of religious conviction. (…) It is important that Muslims and Christians continue to explore philosophical and theological questions together, in order to come to a more objective and comprehensive knowledge of each others’ religious beliefs. Better mutual understanding will surely lead, at the practical level, to a new way of presenting our two religions not in opposition, as has happened too often in the past, but in partnership for the good of the human family. Interreligious dialogue is most effective when it springs from the experience of "living with each other" from day to day within the same community and culture. In Syria, Christians and Muslims have lived side by side for centuries, and a rich dialogue of life has gone on unceasingly. Every individual and every family knows moments of harmony, and other moments when dialogue has broken down. The positive experiences must strengthen our communities in the hope of peace; and the negative experiences should not be allowed to undermine that hope. For all the times that Muslims and Christians have offended one another, we need to seek forgiveness from the Almighty and to offer each other forgiveness. Jesus teaches us that we must pardon others’ offences if God is to pardon us our sins (cf. Mt 6:14). As members of the one human family and as believers, we have obligations to the common good, to justice and to solidarity. Interreligious dialogue will lead to many forms of cooperation, especially in responding to the duty to care for the poor and the weak. These are the signs that our worship of God is genuine. 5. As we make our way through life towards our heavenly destiny, Christians feel the company of Mary, the Mother of Jesus; and Islam too pays tribute to Mary and hails her as "chosen above the women of the world" (Quran, III:42). The Virgin of Nazareth, the Lady of Saydnâya, has taught us that God protects the humble and "scatters the proud in the imagination of their hearts" (Lk 1:51). May the hearts of Christians and Muslims turn to one another with feelings of brotherhood and friendship, so that the Almighty may bless us with the peace which heaven alone can give. To the One, Merciful God be praise and glory for ever. Amen."

Apostolic Journey of His Holiness Benedict XVI to Turkey
 (November/December 2006)
Meeting with the President of the Religious Affairs Directorate,
Address by the Holy Father, 28 November 28, 2006 (here)

I have set out upon my visit to Turkey with the same sentiments as those expressed by my predecessor Blessed John XXIII, when he came here as Archbishop Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, to fulfil the office of Papal Representative in Istanbul, and I quote him: “I am fond of the Turks”, he said, “to whom the Lord has sent me … I love the Turks, I appreciate the natural qualities of these people who have their own place reserved in the march of civilization” (Journal of a Soul, pp. 228, 233-4).
For my own part, I also wish to highlight the qualities of the Turkish population. Here I make my own the words of my immediate predecessor, Pope John Paul II of blessed memory, who said on the occasion of his visit in 1979: “I wonder if it is not urgent, precisely today when Christians and Muslims have entered a new period of history, to recognize and develop the spiritual bonds that unite us, in order to preserve and promote together, for the benefit of all men, ‘peace, liberty, social justice and moral values’” (Address to the Catholic Community in Ankara, 28 November 1979)...
Christians and Muslims, following their respective religions, point to the truth of the sacred character and dignity of the person. This is the basis of our mutual respect and esteem, this is the basis for cooperation in the service of peace between nations and peoples, the dearest wish of all believers and all people of good will.

"The pope accepted the gift of a ceramic tile inscribed
with the word "Allah" in the form of a dove.

Placing his hand on the tile, the pope said: "Thank you for this gift. Let us pray for brotherhood and for all humanity."
"Your Holiness, please remember us," the mufti replied."

Recent studies on human sexuality have highlighted that sexual aspects are of major importance in building up personal identity and in the social evolution of individuals: "Human sexuality is not simply imposed by instinct or stereotypical conducts, as it happens in animals, but it is influenced both by superior mental activity and by social, cultural, educational and normative characteristics of those places where the subjects grow up and their personality develops. Consequently, the analysis of sexual sphere must be based on the convergence of several lines of development such as affectivity, emotions and relations."
